Sesame Street Human Cast Sketches
Sketches featuring the main human cast members of Sesame Street, taking place away from the street set and often portraying different characters.
Several sketches were remade following the departure of actors from the cast.

Episode 0178 Gordon notices two groups of potato sacks with the wrong numbers matted above them: the group of two has the number 3, and the group of 3 has the number 2. He and Bob cooperate to carry one sack from one group to the other.

Episode 0193 Gordon and Mr. Hooper have ice cream on a hot day, but can't remove their sweaters by themselves, until they cooperate.

Episode 0279 Bob comes across a DANGER sign next to a frozen pond. Ignoring the sign, he skates on the ice (via pixillation) until it starts to crack. Bob then concedes the sign is there for good reason.
Note: The segment was originally made for Episode 0213, but marked as deleted in the final air handwritten notes on the script.

Episode 0233 Gordon appears as a magician sitting in a chair. He magically brings in Susan and Mr. Hooper, as well as a number counting them all. The other two pop in and out, forcing Gordon to change the number until he makes them all vanish.

Episode 0251 Mr. Hooper takes a journey through the "un" family. He's chroma keyed into backgrounds that correspond to words ending in "un" on his cue cards.

Episode 0256 Kids narrate Mr. Hooper and Bob arranging "more" and "less" boxes in limbo.

Episode 0271 Fran Brill narrates a segment with Gordon and Tom drawing a house in limbo.

Episode 0276 Mr. Hooper, Bob and Brian help Susan set the table. Now that's what I call cooperation.

Episode 0277 Tom and Bob are their own living reflections in a mirror; the kids, in voiceover, shout same and different.

Episode 0282 Bob and Mr. Hooper have a dispute over using a sole coat hanger for their coats. They eventually cooperate and put both their coats on the one hanger.

Episode 0288 Mr. Hooper adds 3 chairs as a sportscaster narrates.


Episode 0292 Part 1: In limbo, and without dialogue save for a voiceover, Tom, Rafael, Gordon, and Bob all try to get a drink of water from the same tap, but they keep arguing and bumping into each other when they all reach for it at the same time. The result is that no one gets a drink of water.
Part 2: The four men circle the water tap eyeing one another while the voicover wonders what they will do. One of them holds the tap while the other gets a drink. The voiceover declares that some things are easy when you cooperate.

Episode 0296 Because the lid of a box won't stay open by itself, Gordon can't put a large beachball in it alone, and Bob can't put a large inflated beach animal toy in it alone. They discover that if one of them holds the lid the other can easily put his article in the box.

Episode 0298 Tom, Rafael, and Bob go in, on, and under some boxes.

Episode 0298 Tom stands on Gordon's shoulders, as an announcer repeatedly points out the difference of being on an under. Gordon leaves to get some sandwiches, leaving Tom suspended in the air.

Episode 0315 A Howard Cosell-type voice narrates Terrific Tom as he subtracts one chair from three chairs.

Episode 0316 Tom, Bob, Luis, and Susan demonstrate "before and after" with the aid of a club sandwich, a barbershop scene, and a growing plant.

Episode 0323 Gordon and Tom take turns being happy and sad depending on how well their team is doing. They both get sad when the game is cancelled on account of snow.

Episode 0326 David, Luis and Linda count in different languages.

Episode 0326 Luis tries lifting what appears to be a heavy weight. David comes along and pops the weights on either end of the bar. He lifts it up declaring it to be light.



Episode 0394 Part 1: Tom plays the part of a super-hero ready to to fly off and do justice... except he can't remember what to say before taking off: "Something, something and away. What is that word?" In voiceover, Bob announces he'll help him remember by displaying the word "UP" on screen. Tom recognizes the word, but can't remember what it says, so he'll "just have to try something else." He takes a leap, declares "Down, down and away!", and crashes to the ground.
Part 2: Tom is still trying to think of the word he's missing. "Up" flashes on the screen again, but doesn't help him. Instead, he tries "Across, across and away!" and zooms to the side out of frame where he crashes. Back in frame, he says he doesn't think that was the word either.
Part 3: Tom still can't remember the word. He goes over his previous mistakes and worries he'll never fly again if he can't think of the word. Bob, still unseen, shows "up" on the screen for the last time. Tom tries to sound it out, but goes with "Around, around and away!" before running in circles and getting himself dizzy. Bob, no longer able to stay out of sight as the announcer, appears on screen and spells it out for Tom. "All you have to say is UP, UP and away." With a whoosh, Bob is lifted off the ground with Tom looking up after him.

Episode 0413 No matter how you arrange these nine people (including Maria, Luis and David), they're still nine people.

Episode 0422 Maria, Susan, Luis and David put together a fractured letter H.

Episode 0423 A narrator (Jerry Nelson) demonstrates why it's easier to address people by their names. David, Gordon, Susan, Luis, and some kids are lined up in limbo as the voice calls out for a man to raise his hand (David, Gordon, and Luis comply). The voice then asks for a black man to raise his hand (David and Gordon). Finally, the voice asks for the black man wearing a tie to raise his hand, which leaves only Gordon.

Episode 0426 Part 1: David tries to enter a speakeasy when Bob asks him for the password, hinting that it starts with a P. Is it "pickle?" Bob slams the window on him.
Part 2: David tries guessing the password again. Is it "puppy?" Bob still refuses to let him in.
Part 3: David continues guessing the password, this time bringing in a wheelbarrow full of P items. It's not "pajamas" (worn under his trenchcoat), "paddle," "pizza," or any others. By sheer luck, David learns that the P-word password is "password."



Episode 0429 Part 1: David and Maria dine on spaghetti. Maria polishes off her plate in a short time, but David starts to eat each strand individually, which takes very long...
Part 2: David's plate is about half-empty.
Part 3: Maria has fallen asleep by now, but wakes up when David finally finishes eating his spaghetti. He then beckons a waiter (Bob) to bring him another serving...

Episode 0430 In a three-part segment, Ms. Short (Maria) and Mr. Long (David) spend an evening together.

Episode 0431 A Howard Cosell-type announcer narrates as athlete Maria subtracts a chair from a group of three.

Episode 0435 "Dandy David" adds flowers and flower pots.

Episode 0436 Susan explains to Luis, in his first day on the job, how to stack and count sacks that come off an assembly line.

Episode 0438 David and Luis prepare to hang clothes on a high clothesline using a ladder. However, they each climb it to hang one article at a time. A voiceover instructs them to cooperate, so David climbs the ladder as Luis hands him clothes to hang up.

Episode 0439 "David the Daring" does his famous forwards and backwards trick.

Episode 0442 David goes through a series of doors marked "OPEN" (each one smaller than the one before).

Episode 0443 Marvelous Maria rides her trike in 10 circles (then backwards).



Episode 0456 Part 1: Bob presides over David and Maria's wedding. After the couple says "I do", the minister instructs the groom to place the ring on the bride's finger. David looks confused, so Bob tells him it's the round thing in his pocket. After some searching, David produces a pizza: it's round and it was in his pocket. Bob clarifies that it also has to have a hole in it, so David pulls out an inflated bicycle tube. Bob adds an additional caveat: it has to be much smaller than that. David next finds a doughnut in his pocket, but Bob says it has to be smaller still.
Part 2: Our wedding party is much older now, graying and visibly worn. The chapel is also filled with several more round things with holes in them: truck tires, trash can lids, a crown, hulu-hoops, etc. David notes that his wife is still "pretty as a picture" after all these years, and attempts to seal the deal with a motown record.
Part 3: So much time has now passed that the chapel is covered in cobwebs, and everyone's hair has become much grayer (the men sport beards that touch the floor). David, very frail now, is convinced he's finally found the ring, but all he's got is a lifebuoy. Maria, also shaking with age, says that she's had it after 73 years and announces she's leaving him. Affording him one more chance, David finds a wedding band on the floor and places it on Maria's finger. Bob announces the couple married just as they all collapse from geriatric fatigue.

Episode 0460 Maria tries to replicate a block tower.

Episode 0467 In speed-induced footage, Maria, Luis and David put together a letter Q.

Episode 0468 Maria, David, Gordon, and Luis play knights who have their lunch at a round table.

Episode 0469 Luis demonstrates how to use a can opener to open a can of spaghetti ... not realizing that it's open on the bottom already.

Episode 0469 Maria demonstrates how a hammer is used by hammering a nail into a wall to hang up a picture. Then, the wall tips over on her.

Episode 0469 Luis and David cooperate on a rainy day.

Episode 0470 Part 1: Gordon points to a closed window, which he struggles to open. Once he does, he relaxes in a chair, when the window slams shut.
Part 2: Gordon forces the window open by placing a book underneath, which Susan then removes.
Part 3: Gordon finally uses a hammer and nails to ensure the window stays open, just in time for a blizzard to blow in snow from outside.
Episode 0470 Maria comments via voiceover as Gordon comes into a shoe store to purchase some shoes. Salesman Luis presents him with a pair that's too small, then too big. He finally realizes that measuring Gordon's foot will tell him what size shoes to find.

Episode 0476 A Volkswagen Beetle (functioning as a clown car) is full, until members of the cast exit the car, making it empty.

Episode 0478 Captain Bligh (David) orders his crew (Luis, Maria, and Gordon) to bring him the biggest treasure chest, which is filled with rubber duckies.

Episode 0484 Surgeons Maria, David, Susan and Luis "operate" on a motorcycle.

Episode 0485 Luis, dressed as a magician, demonstrates addition by conjuring up the correct numeral when David and Maria arrive. As each person leaves, Luis switches the numerals to present subtraction.

Episode 0489 Kids comment as Bob's legs, torso, and head move into place.

Episode 0490 A Howard Cosell sound-alike narrates Luis and Gordon running a race in a demonstration of short and long.

Episode 0492 Gordon is a street corner salesman hawking umbrellas. No one wants to buy them on a hot sunny day, but then it rains. Gordon sells all his umbrellas, but then doesn’t have one himself, so he uses his box instead.

Episode 0492 "Sluggo the Great" (David) puts on his baseball gear, but isn't sure which body parts to put them on.

Episode 0497 Luis is dressed for snow, but is stuck at the beach. David dresses for the beach, but finds himself in the snow. They happily switch places.

Episode 0499 David, alone on a desert island, finds a bottle with a genie (Maria) inside it, and wishes for a boat. But Maria keeps mishearing the request and instead gives him a coat and a (live) goat. Finally she gives him a boat ... but it's not the kind of boat he was hoping for.

Episode 0504 David charms a 1 and a 2 out of their baskets to form a 12.

Episode 0505 Maria and David find two sets of sacks, which have incorrect numerical labels.

Episode 0508 Captain Under-Wonder (Luis) shows how he goes under an umbrella, a table and the tire swing (the latter by shrinking himself down).

Episode 0508 Gordon and Luis cooperate to get an apple out of a tree.

Episode 0524 Mr. Hooper and Susan play astronauts on a mission on the Moon. Susan attempts to tally up the three moon rocks, which float off into space one by one (followed by her superior).

Episode 0533 In a two-part skit, Postman David goes to collect some mail from a mailbox, but finds there's more and more each time he opens it. The mailbox is eventually emptied, but how will David get all the mail to the post office? He lets the mail back into the hammerspace-like mailbox, then takes that with him.

Episode 0539 Gordon, Brynne, David, Maria, Luis, and Bob sit on a bus seat with newspapers numbered 1-6, as a voiceover (Jerry Nelson) counts them.

Episode 0549 Bob and Luis put together two halves of a painting of a train tunnel. When they fit the parts together, a train goes through the tunnel and zooms to take up the entire screen, frightening Bob and Luis so much, they take down the tunnel again.

Episode 0551 In a "quickie" about the letter F, Gordon carries some boxes that "Fall".

Episode 0554 At the circus, Ringmaster David introduces the tightrope walker, the Fabulous Flying Fleegle. Instead, his replacement, Floogle (Luis), shows up and struggles with the concept of walking on the tightrope.

Episode 0557 David and Maria demonstrate "on" and "under" in the yard. David goes to get some sandwiches, leaving Maria floating in the air.

Episode 0566 Maria, David, Gordon, and Susan pull on a rope to drag the word HELP into frame. Then they sit on the floor and drive an invisible car away.

Episode 0583 Two Luises demonstrate near and far.

Episode 0585 (3 parts) The Flying Stupendos (Luis, Maria, and David) attempt a trick on the teeter-totter, in which Luis will jump onto one end and catapult Maria onto David's shoulders. On the first try, the teeter-totter breaks. On the second try (with a new teeter-totter), Maria is launched out of shot and winds up hanging off-screen from the ceiling. On the third and final try, Luis lands on the floor missing the teeter-totter, and then sits down on his end, whereupon he and Maria see-saw together, as David walks away unimpressed.

Episode 0595 Maria pushes through a piece of seamless background paper. Via narration, she explains that she's at the top. She pushes through lower on the paper, and explains the difference between top and bottom.

Episode 0596 Luis tries to open a door marked with a "CERRADO" sign. He gets a running start, when Maria changes the sign to read "ABIERTO." She opens the door and Luis runs right through it, crashing.

Episode 0633 Susan, Bob, and Maria give a lesson on addition and subtraction.

Episode 0676 David pitches a slow ball to catcher Maria. He then makes fast, faster, and fastest pitches (the latter of which knocks Maria out of place).

Episode 0677 Maria and David are about to start a ping-pong game, but David doesn't have a paddle. After holding several different types of sports equipment in its place, he finally gets the correct one. Once the problem is solved, Maria and David realize they don't have a ping-pong ball. Dozens of balls then fall on them.

Episode 0680 In the desert, Luis desperately searches for AGUA, but all the pumps are dry.

Episode 0686 David the champion is ready for the match, but assistant Luis gives him the wrong match for his boxing glove. Once the right one is placed, he and Gordon face off in a game of marbles.

Episode 0701 Salesman David tries to sell two sets of books, a four-volume history of the number 4 and a four-volume history of the letter Q.

Episode 0703 On a desert island, a parched Luis finds a coconut, which has a letter C inside.

Episode 0705 David tries Maria's BREAD, but says it's BAD. She BUTTERs it, but he says it's BITTER. In response, Maria throws the BATTER in his face.

Episode 0728 In a circus routine, Luis the ringmaster demonstrates "before" and "after". Freeze-frame technology allows his assistant, Linda, to show each action as she jumps through a hoop, slips on a banana peel, and gets a bucket of water thrown at her face (she returns the last favor to Luis at the end of the sketch).

Episode 0743 The camera starts in tight on the faces of the cast, who are wearing different outfits associated with a sound effect they cue. Gordon dresses as a firefighter, David as a police officer, Bob as a farmer, and Maria as an astronaut.

Episode 0747 Maria recites the alphabet as the letters take up space onscreen.

Episode 0761 Jasper Johnson (David) performs his famous "J" Walk for a roaring crowd.

Episode 0772 David tries to close a window and a door, but they open by themselves.



Episode 0782 Part 1: The Sesame Street Roughnecks (Maria, Gordon, Luis and Mr. Hooper) face off against Regular Kid in the Subtraction Bowl. Both competitors are poised to figure out how many four crates minus one crate equals. As the Roughnecks attempt to physically remove the crates, Regular Kid solves the math problem on the chalkboard.
Part 2: In Round 2 of the Subtraction Bowl, the teams must now figure out how much three crates take away one equals. Maria and Gordon remove Regular Kid's chalkboard, but she's still able to figure out the math using her fingers.
Part 3: In the final round, the teams must now figure out how much two crates take away one equals. The Roughnecks put boxing gloves on Regular Kid's hands to prevent her from counting with fingers, but, using visual thinking, she gets the correct final answer, and wins the trophy.

Episode 0786 Maria trains Bob and David to be waiters in a restaurant by showing them which door to go in and which to go out. She uses a few sung jingles to help them remember which is which. Bob catches on, but David has a hard time doing so.

Episode 0796 Bob, Maria and David demonstrate in, on, and under in their own ways.

Episode 0821 Maria, Luis, Gordon and three kids all have umbrellas with different patterns, which a voiceover uses to put them into different groups.

Episode 0826 Gordon and Luis demonstrate front and back with a tandem bicycle.

Episode 0840 In limbo, a voice (Maria) instructs Luis (dressed as a yokel) to point out the features of his face. He doesn't do so well and she remarks that he'd forget his head if it wasn't attached. The camera cuts wide as his body walks away without his head.

Episode 0848 In a spoof of the J. Arthur Rank logo, Bob demonstrates "G" for "gong" — but when he strikes the gong, only a tiny ding emanates.

Episode 0901 David and Maria cooperate to reach the top of the mountain.

Episode 0904 Luis and Maria put together a fractured lowercase a.


Episode 0908 Buffy and Maria heave a heavy rock, dropping it in a hole; Luis laughs “ha ha ha”.

Episode 0927 In a parody of the 120 Music Masterpieces commercial, Milton Crust (Luis) promotes a wonderful new opportunity being offered by the Long John's Rhyming Word Society: for only $9.98, the customer will get a key and a pea. In addition, anybody that calls right at that very second will receive other items (and even more items 6 months later) that rhyme with key and pea, free of charge, all of which are brought in by Milton's assistants (David and Maria), until he gets dragged away.



Episode 0928 Part 1: Maria drags herself across the sands of a limbo desert until she comes to a soda fountain staffed by David. She weakly asks for agua, but David doesn't understand the word leaving Maria to pantomime various clues that mean water. David interprets that she's asking for a telescope, an umbrella, a muffler, and a rubber duckie to take a bath with. Maria slaps her head in frustration.
Part 2: The props are stacking up as Maria continues to pantomime her plea for water while David guesses that she's asking for slippers, a snorkel, and a fish.
Part 3: David and Maria have been at this for years now, and are showing their old age. Many, many items have piled up as David guesses Maria is asking for a shovel and pail, a live skunk, and a boat. David says he needs a break from 68 years of guessing, and drinks a glass of water. Maria goes crazy over the beverage, so David offers her some. Maria refreshed, David asks to continue guessing what agua means.

Episode 0936 Maria tries to assemble a broken R together.

Episode 0938 Luis and the kids put together a fractured letter N.

Episode 0939 Bob, dressed as a clown, sounds out the word ENTER by grouping two doors together.

Episode 0952 A king (David) and his knights (Luis, Bob and Maria) assemble for their meeting at the round table, but discover their table is actually a square. They fetch a triangle, then rectangle table before finally getting a round one, around which they all sit down for lunch.

Episode 0972 The cast shows different L words - Maria turns on a lamp, Luis finds an L in his lunchbox, and Bob lassoes a letter L.

Episode 0974 Bob plays an explorer named Faversham Svedwick who spends twenty years searching all over the globe for Kermit the Hermit, the Wisest Man in the World. When he finds him, he challenges him to a game of tag.

Episode 0991 Luis and Maria play a guessing game where Maria must guess what part of the body Luis has covered under a paper bag.

Episode 1033 Luis comes across a table with only three legs, yet still stands up fine. He searches in his box of junk for a proper leg.

Episode 1056 Bob, Linda and Luis assemble a lowercase h.

Episode 1169 Bob demonstrates a J word - juggle.

Episode 1204 "Hot Lips Hooper", "Second Wind Susan" and "Great Lungs Gordon" compete in The Big Blowout to see who can blow up a balloon the biggest.

Episode 1205 On stage, Gordon, Luis and Linda say "DANGER" in their own ways. David doesn't listen and take the brunt of some pratfalls that send him off the stage.

Episode 1220 Luis and Gordon debate over keeping the window open or closed while they sleep at night. Gordon eventually keeps the window closed, but smashes the wall around it.

Episode 1222 Maria, dressed as conductor Hubert von Carryoff, instructs David, Luis and Gordon in a performance of "Concerto for Cigar Box, Washtub and Jug". David should play first, Luis should play next, and Gordon should play last.

Episode 1227 Captain Nasty (Gordon) commands his pirate crew (Olivia, Bob and Mr. Hooper) to bring him not the big or the bigger, but the biggest treasure chest.
Episode 1244 Maria and Gordon sort shapes by type and color.

Episode 1245 Gordon and Olivia try to cooperate under the sun, with voiceover from Bob.


Episode 1255 David and Bob play firemen at the fire station. The alarm signals a fire and they rush to get ready. Bob has trouble finding his axe in his messy locker. When he finally does, he notices he's also missing his boots and starts searching through his locker again.

Episode 1281 David and Luis come across two sets of boxes - a pyramid of 10, and a single box. Numbers appear above, misattributing the value of each set. Instead of correcting the amount of boxes on each side of the screen, they simply remove the 0 from the 10 and move it to the other side.

Episode 1302 Maria and Bob take EX and IT from two doors to form EXIT. They place the sign between the doors and smash through the wall together.

Episode 1340 Gordon and Luis cooperate to clean up a pile of litter with a dustpan and broom.

Episode 1354 Via split-screen, two Lindas sign letters of the alphabet: one is no-nonsense, and the other is very playful. A male voiceover narrates the letters with the same demeanor Linda signs them in.

Episode 1357 "Sleeper" (David) tries to wake up in the morning, so as to get dressed and catch a bus.

Episode 1360 David tries demonstrating the word "CLOSED," but the door keeps opening. He stands in front of it, preventing it from opening, as the wall around it topples over.

Episode 1399 Luis and Gordon have a hard time picking apples by themselves, but all it takes is cooperation.

Episode 1421 Gordon, Maria and Luis show T words as they brush their teeth.

Episode 1431 David plays a magician, pulling five rabbits from his hat. An indignant hand pulls them back in one by one.

Episode 1449 Gordon, Maria, Luis and Bob explain how they cooperated to catch a fish for eat (a la "This is House That Jack Built").

Episode 1457 Bob and Maria struggle to wash some dishes, when (the very loud and booming) Captain Cooperation (Luis) shows them how cooperation will ease the process.

Episode 1476 Maria and Luis play castaways on an island, when Bob shows up as a new friend.

Episode 1480 Susan, Luis, Gordon and Maria are competing on a potato bag race. Maria's bag is full of vegetables, which she gives to the others. They hop off to make them into meals, leaving Maria as the only racer.

Episode 1487 Luis tosses and turns in bed. Gordon hawks a sure-fire method of getting to sleep - counting. Luis orders Gordon to leave the bedroom in ten seconds, then falls asleep after counting.

Episode 1491 Gordon and the word "wand."

Episode 1497 Maria, David and Olivia compete to see who can jump the farthest.

Episode 1508 Maria and Linda sew quilts with a Q on them.

Episode 1511 David struggles to keep a door CERRADO, as it keeps opening itself. He slams it shut, shattering the wall behind it.

Episode 1526 Maria plays Crazy Betty, whose warehouse is holding a clearance sale on various shapes. Susan, Gordon and Luis play her harried workers, bringing in more and more new shapes, then drag Crazy Betty out.


Episode 1535 In a spoof of the famous Mean Joe Green Coke commercial, football player Big Murray (Gordon) accepts a number 7 from a young fan, whom he rewards with a towel that also has a 7 on it.

Episode 1578 Gordon preaches the importance of rain as it starts to do so in his office.

Episode 1591 Sonia Manzano plays a flamboyant salesperson peddling human hands in a commercial. Throughout her pitch, various uses for hands are shown including scratching, poking, chopping, tickling, and playing the piano. After her spiel, she adds that this offer is not available to elephants.

Episode 1819 Maria and Linda dress the same, then Linda dresses differently.

Episode 1937 The Great Addini (Maria) performs her famous bottle-balancing trick with her assistant Bill (David), who is doubtful the stunt will work.

Episode 2067 Luis and Linda assemble the word COLD, and it snows.

Episode 2159 Maria is dressed for summer weather, while Linda is dressed for the snow. They switch clothes and scenarios.

Episode 2163 The cast stars in a two-part soap opera spoof about a missing shoelace.

Episode 2478 In the morning, Barnaby surprises his mother with breakfast in bed. They are happy, until they realize that Mr. Heartstrong is missing, which makes them sad. They are further saddened by the lack of a fork. Mr. Heartstrong comes back from his run, feeling happy, until he sees his wife and son both sad. They are once again happy when they see that Mr. Heartstrong has brought back a bag of forks from the store.

Episode 2595 Gordon acts out Maria's 13 Step Method of Lifting a Heavy Barbell.

Episode 2727 Carnival barker Mike runs a ball-throwing booth. Maria and Travis decide to try winning a prize by knocking down all the bottles. She tries twice, and knocks some of them down, then she lets Travis try his luck. He not only knocks all the bottles down, but the stand as well! For a prize, he wants the ball, which he obtains by way of reverse footage.


Episode 2729 Gordon hosts "The Crossing Zone," in which a boy named Jonathan has to find a way to cross the street. Susan helps him across.

Episode 2995 Gordon displays his lowercase letter D and states D-words as a downpour leaves him drenched.
