A Dive Attack[1] refers to the ability to attack an enemy by falling onto them from a sufficient distance.

Debuting in Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby (or another playable character) assumes a headlong falling position once he has fallen unimpeded for long enough. Kirby can harm an enemy by landing on it during a Dive Attack, though this does not conventionally damage mid-bosses or bosses. In some games, this can also be used to nullify damage from certain projectiles, such as Waddle Doo's Beam attack. Hitting the ground or an enemy during a Dive Attack will cause a small bounce.

This move can be performed in nearly every main series Kirby game, though it has grown gradually less effective over the series timeline. In Kirby: Squeak Squad, if Kirby has the Fire, Ice, or Spark abilities when performing a Dive Attack, it will take on the elemental properties of the respective ability, such as freezing enemies or creating sparks on metal surfaces. Starting in Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kirby can manually activate a Dive Attack by initiating a Quick Fall.

If I fly high enough, I can dive onto an enemy to defeat it and I won't even get hurt![1]

Trivia[edit]

  • In the Super Smash Bros. series, Kirby's free-falling animation (which is rarely seen) resembles the dive attack position. However, it cannot do damage in these games.
