Ro Gale playing the belaklavion.

The belaklavion (or simply klavion) was a Bajoran musical instrument which was difficult to master.

History and specifics[]

Belaklavions are played at a festival held in the village of Yyn. (DS9 novel: Bajor: Fragments and Omens)

Ro Laren's father played the belaklavion, and would play for his daughter when she was afraid of monsters under her bed. Her father claimed the sound of the belaklavion had special powers that made monsters disappear.

Maquis member Macias also played the belaklavion, saying he enjoyed the challenge. (TNG episode: "Preemptive Strike")

Dr. Jennifer Almieri owned a Bajoran belaklavion. (CoE eBook: Ghost)

In Bajor: Fragments and Omens, the belaklavion is described as being a stringed instrument. The instrument name is spelled "bellaclavion" in Ghost.
Memory Alpha suggests the unnamed Bajoran woodwind instrument first seen in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Sanctuary" may have been a belaklavion.
