The 20th century Human author Arthur C. Clarke lived in Sri Lanka for many years. Missy, a Sri Lankan girl who attended the Starfleet Junior Academy read Clarke's novels and had been inspired to join Starfleet by them. (DS9 - YA series novel: Space Camp)
On 10 July 1992 at his palace citadel in Chandigarh, India, Khan Noonien Singh announced his annexation of Sri Lanka into the Great Khanate, along with Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
