Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow: The following content contains spoilers!

Deep Space 3 was a Federation Starbase constructed prior to 2290 near the border of the Klingon Empire, with the purpose of monitoring the activities of the Breen and other species in Breen space, in the vicinity of the Alpha Quadrant's Black Cluster. (TOS novel: War Dragons; ST reference: Star Charts)

History and specifications[]

In 2290, the space station was attacked by combined Anjiri and Nykkus forces, resulting in great damage, with the USS Enterprise-A and USS Excelsior taking part in the station's defense. (TOS novel: War Dragons)

In 2349, the USS Stargazer docked at Deep Space 3. Admiral Ammerman was assigned there at this time. (TNG novel: The First Virtue)

By 2370, the station was under the command of Admiral Marcus Holt. In that year, the station hosted the annual palio, wherein the Ferengi were accused of trying to bribe the Breen pilot into throwing the race. Later that year, the USS Hera, commanded by Captain Silva La Forge, departed Deep Space 3 on a courier mission and disappeared shortly after. (TNG episode: "Interface")

On Stardate 47213.3, Maquis member Rhona Barrows stole a runabout from Deep Space 3. (TNG comic: "Sky's the Limit")

In 2375, Admiral Holt reported making great strides in Federation/Breen relations until the Breen joined the Dominion. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Core Game Book)

In 2378, Berlinghoff Rasmussen evaded parole and stole the USS Bonavista from Deep Space 3, making for Talos IV. (DFT - Another Piece of the Action comic: "Part 1")

Later in that year, the USS Freeman was unable to detect Deep Space 3, finding an anomaly destroying local space-time in that region of space and requested permission to investigate. (DFT - No Old Warriors comic: "Part 3")

The Zebulon Sisters performed the Chu Chu dance at DS3. Beckett Mariner had attended the event by 2380. (LDs episode: "Terminal Provocations")

First splinter timeline[]

By 2381, Deep Space 3 was under the command of Commander Gong. DS3 was the location of a field office of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, directed by Lieutenant Commander Kareem Mussad. Shortly after the Borg Invasion of 2381, Deep Space 3 became a central research facility for "Project Reassimilation", a classified project to study deactivated Borg technology and attempt to adapt it for Starfleet use. (ST novel: A Singular Destiny)
