Starbase 80

Starbase 80 (abbreviation SB80) was a 24th century Federation starbase in Starfleet service, a Fleet Starbase type space station facility, located in the Xerxes star system at coordinates 2.29N 5.38W, somewhere in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants.

History and specifications[]

In the year 2365, while Guinan was waiting at the starbase for the Federation starship USS Enterprise-D to pick her up, she was told a story by Jake Stutzman. The very same story was later told to her by Geordi La Forge, where he claimed credit for Stutzman's actions. (TNG novel: Fortune's Light)

When the USS Voyager encountered the USS Equinox in the Delta Quadrant, Captain Ransom said that he had previously been on an Intrepid-class ship as a science officer pro tem for a visit while at Starbase 80. (VOY novelization: Equinox)

Starbase 80 had an unpopular reputation as an assignment for Starfleet personnel. In the year 2380, Doctor T'Ana suggested that Ensign Beckett Mariner transfer to Starbase 80 as it seem like she always goofed around. (LD episode: "Terminal Provocations")

Mariner was again threatened to be transferred to Starbase 80 by Commander Jack Ransom if she failed in her task to run the recruitment booth. (LD episode: "Reflections")

In 2381, Captain Carol Freeman transferred Mariner to Starbase 80 after thinking she'd betrayed her trust to a reporter. Not long after arriving, Mariner resigned from Starfleet. (LD episode: "Trusted Sources")

In a personal log, Mariner claimed that the station reeked of shrimp and she had resigned after spending "maybe 30 seconds" on Starbase 80. (Instagram - Star Trek: Lower Decks Logs post: Beckett Mariner Personal Log)

In 2382, the Cerritos was assigned to help repair Starbase 80, Captain Freeman finding kinship with Kassia Nox's view of her starbase as a place for outcasts and misfits to find a second chance. (LD episode: "Starbase 80?!")

Later that year, when a stable portal to the multiverse was established, Starbase 80 was towed to the portal, as, due to its antiquated technology, Starbase 80 was the only active station that could withstand the portal's tachyon density. Captain Freeman and Admiral Alonzo Freeman were transferred to Starbase 80 to oversee Starfleet's new mandate of exploring the multiverse. (LD episode: "The New Next Generation")

By the year 2411, Starbase 80 was a Fleet Starbase-type space station located in the Beta Quadrant's Celes sector. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Partisans")

Alternate timelines[]

In the timeline where Beckett Mariner came to be known as "Becky Freeman", Carol Freeman had been transferred to Starbase 80 in light of her many failures while captain of the Cerritos. (LD episode: "Dos Cerritos")
