This article is about the Copy Ability. For the item in Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, see Balloon (item).

Balloon is a Copy Ability that debuted in Kirby: Canvas Curse, and is the first one to be introduced in a spin-off game. It allows Kirby to inflate and float like a balloon, and attack enemies by popping after expanding a lot. Despite this potential offensive use, the ability is primarily meant to enhance Kirby's movement capabilities, momentarily freeing him from the Rainbow Lines he is normally dependent on. With the right amount of momentum, Balloon Kirby is capable of traversing great distances very quickly, though his inflated size makes him a much bigger target than usual, so care is needed when making use of the ability to keep Kirby safe.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]

Balloon debuts in Kirby: Canvas Curse, obtained by defeating the enemy Bloon. With it, Kirby can float for a short time when touched with the DS stylus, growing in the process as well. He will soon drop down again, at which point he can be tapped again, growing bigger and moving up again. If he touches any surface in this state, he will bounce away from it. When tapped enough times, he will eventually explode, although he can be blown up again in the same cycle. Taking damage while blown up will make Kirby pop, although he will not lose the ability under this circumstance.

In the Rainbow Run mode, the Balloon ability is one of four abilities with its own pair of courses, the others being Stone, Missile, and Wheel.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

Balloon Kirby makes a small cameo appearance in this game as one of the collectible Keychains that can be found throughout it.
