This article is about the sword-wielding foe with the segmented helmet, and should not be confused with Blade Knight.

Sword Knight is a relatively obscure sword-wielding enemy in the Kirby series, wearing green or purple armor and wielding a spiked blade either white or golden in hue. First appearing in Kirby's Adventure, he makes a fair number of appearances in early Kirby games, and will grant Kirby the Sword Copy Ability when swallowed. Sword Knight is normally found in random areas, and is usually ranked as a minor enemy, but he tends to have more prestige (if nothing else) than his cousin Blade Knight, despite appearing less often. Sword Knight also appears in Kirby: Right Back at Ya! as an ally and an apprentice of Meta Knight.

Kirby Air Ride[edit]

In Kirby Air Ride, Sword Knight returns in his only appearance in 3D (so far), riding on a hoverboard. If Kirby approaches, Sword Knight will swing his sword wildly at him until he passes. Unlike most enemies in the game, Sword Knight rarely appears in a large group. At most, two or three might appear at once to gang up on Kirby.

Notably, two Sword Knights appear to antagonize Kirby in the game's opening cutscene. Kirby quickly dispatches them with the Sword Ability before moving on to face Meta Knight.

Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

Kirby approaching Sword Knight in Kirby Super Star Ultra.

In Kirby Super Star Ultra, Sword Knight appears as a normal enemy, but only in Revenge of the King, where he replaces Blade Knight (Sword Knight does not appear in the original Kirby Super Star). Sword Knight blocks projectiles and is much more aggressive than Blade Knight. Kirby is granted the Sword Copy Ability when he swallows one. However, Kirby is unable to call on Sword Knight to be a Helper. He can only call for Blade Knight. In Revenge of the King, Sword Knight appears in the stages Purple Plants, Crash Clouds, and The Revenge.

In Meta Knightmare Ultra, Meta Knight can call on a Sword Knight to assist him. He possesses most of Meta Knight's basic abilities and moves. By default, Sword Knight is AI-controlled, but a second player is able to control him. Whether a Sword Knight or Blade Knight is summoned is randomized.

Sword Knight also appears in Helper to Hero, with orange armor and a blue and red torso, making the Sword ability the only ability in Helper to Hero with two different helpers. Unlike Blade Knight, he is able to use an upwards-thrust attack. Sword Knight also appears on a card in Kirby Card Swipe.

Kirby Mass Attack[edit]

Sword Knight appears in the Kirby Mass Attack Sub-Game Kirby Quest, alongside Blade Knight in Stage 29 and with Blade Knight and Meta Knight in Stage 39. Sword Knight has 750 HP, slightly more than Blade Knight's 720 HP, which may be a nod to how of the two, Sword Knight is generally considered to be slightly stronger.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, two randomly appearing Keychains of Sword Knight can be obtained. One of them uses his sprite from Kirby's Adventure, while the other uses his sprite from Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

In Kirby's Dream Buffet, Sword Knight appears as one of the Character Treats, using his artwork from Kirby's Adventure.

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya![edit]

Artwork from Kirby: Right Back at Ya!
Main article: Sword Knight (anime character)

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, Sword Knight is an assistant of Meta Knight, and has the same basic job as Blade Knight. In the English dub, he speaks with a British cockney accent, and is the only one of the two who can be understood clearly.

In the Kirby novel series[edit]

— Unofficial translation of Sword Knight's description from Kirby: Meta Knight and the Puppet Princess

In the Kirby novel series, Sword Knight is one of Meta Knight's two highest-ranking henchmen, alongside Blade Knight. The two of them are often seen together, and are extremely loyal to Meta Knight. Sword Knight sometimes has a tendency to tease Blade Knight.

Volume appearances[edit]

The following is a complete list of every appearance Sword Knight has made in the Kirby novel series, along with the role he plays and its details in the plot of each volume:

Sword Knight's appearances in the Kirby novel series
Volume Image Role Role details Notes
Kirby: Meta Knight and the Puppet Princess Tetartagonist In this volume, Sword Knight and Blade Knight come with Meta Knight to the planet Chiffon Star to search for Princess Marona, who went missing. They find out that the princess was manipulated by Baron Gallic, a villain that Meta Knight and his henchmen had dealt with in the past. Sword and Blade remember that Baron Gallic had tried to control them with his Malice Stone to steal Meta Knight's treasured sword Galaxia in the past, but Meta Knight had stopped him. When the group confronts Baron Gallic, Kirby inhales Sword Knight for the Sword ability and nearly wins, but the baron puts Blade Knight under the control of his stone, and they escape to his lair. When the group sets out for Gallic's lair, Sword Knight calmly lets Kirby inhale him for the Sword ability again. Kirby loses against the brainwashed Blade Knight, and Sword Knight gets knocked out of him. Sword Knight falls under the stone's spell too, but Kirby quickly inhales the two knights so Meta Knight can go after Baron Gallic. After Baron Gallic's defeat, Sword and Blade come back to their senses, and they reunite with Meta Knight.
Kirby's Decisive Battle! Battle Royale!! (unillustrated) Tertiary character In this volume, Sword Knight is sent by Meta Knight to gather intel about Dedede's Cake Royale. He encounters Kirby and Waddle Dee and tells them about his mission. Waddle Dee gives him a leaflet about the event. After reading it, he thinks that Meta Knight would be pleased to hear that the prize is a cake. Kirby asks Sword Knight if he wants to be his Copy Ability, and even when Sword Knight refuses, Kirby inhales him and gets the Sword ability. By the time Meta Knight arrives to the Cake Royale to test his strength, he wonders on where Sword Knight went, not knowing that he got inhaled. Near the end of the Cake Royale, Kirby drops the Sword ability after a powerful attack by King Dedede, releasing Sword Knight. Kirby is about to inhale him again, but Sword Knight flees to the stands. Meta Knight tells Kirby that inhaling him again won't do any good, and Kirby agrees, relieving Sword Knight.
Kirby: Meta Knight and the Knight of Yomi Tetartagonist In this volume, Sword Knight competes with the other subordinates of Meta Knight on who can defeat the most enemies as he protects the Halberd from a pirate raid. He comes with Meta Knight to the weapon shop and slices the rope which tied the trapped shopkeeper. He comes with Meta Knight to Planet Magnus and decides to chase after Beryl and stop his rampage after Meta Knight is rescued from the Magnus Hellhole. He chases Beryl across the galaxy and sends reports to Captain Vul, but he continues to arrive too late to the scene. When the small boy they find asks Sword Knight and Blade Knight to take revenge on Meta Knight, they explain to him that the rampaging Meta Knight is a fake. Sword Knight reports to Captain Vul about the list of places given by the small boy and tells him to fly the Halberd to Planet Charm. After realizing it might be a trap, Sword Knight wants to cancel the visit, but Kirby tells him that they should go anyway. When they arrive to Planet Charm, Sword Knight and Blade Knight ponder what led its civilization to ruin. Sword Knight gets a call from Captain Vul about the arrival of the Meta-Knights. When Kirby and King Dedede fight Galacta Knight, he leads the Meta-Knights in his way to chase after Beryl. He finds Beryl but gets suspicious that it is a trap. However, the floor splits under him and he falls into a pitfall prepared by Beryl, which also traps the Meta-Knights. When Beryl is pushed into the trap too, he is surrounded by Sword Knight and the Meta-Knights. Sword Knight reveals Beryl's true form and takes the Galaxia from him. As he cannot escapes from the trap, he asks Waddle Dee for reports on the battle. He receives a call from Captain Vul about how Meta Knight has disappeared from the Halberd and realizes the Meta Knight who is fighting Morpho Knight is the real one. He gives Waddle Dee the Galaxia and orders him to return it to Meta Knight. Meta Knight rescues Sword Knight from the trap and they happily reunite. At the end of the story, Sword Knight enjoys a tea party with the other subordinates of Meta Knight.
