This article is about the sword-wielding foe with the magenta face mask and red plume, and should not be confused with Sword Knight.

Blade Knight is an enemy in the Kirby series that debuted in Kirby's Adventure along with his cousin Sword Knight. He is a swordsman of small stature that wears green armor with a red plume on his helmet. He attacks by swinging his sword and grants Kirby the Sword Copy Ability when inhaled.

Physical appearance[edit]

Blade Knight wears a set of green armor with a red plume on his helmet which has a magenta face mask and a gold visor. He wears a blue belt around his body, white gloves, and brown boots. On his shoulder pauldrons, he has two gold symbols which resemble tridents.

In older games, Blade Knight wore yellow boots and had a dark blue body, though this was altered later on. The official artwork from Kirby's Adventure depicted Blade Knight with insect-like antennae without a plume. In Kirby's Adventure and Kirby's Pinball Land, he has two hairs on his head like Waddle Doo.

Since Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Blade Knight is left-handed, but becomes right-handed like Sword Kirby when recruited as a Friend in Kirby Star Allies. He is also seen right-handed in Kirby and the Forgotten Land and its Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, and Kirby Air Riders.

Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

Kirby about to run down a Blade Knight using the Wheel ability in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.

Blade Knight makes his first appearance in Kirby's Adventure and its remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, along with Sword Knight. Both of them act mainly the same in this game and both provide the Sword ability when inhaled. In Kirby's Adventure, it can also be difficult to tell the two apart.

Kirby's Pinball Land[edit]

In Kirby's Pinball Land, Blade Knight appears as an Easter egg in the upper board of Wispy-Woods Land if Kirby manages to spin a Twister at top speed and quickly spin it again before it stops, accompanied by the Mike scream sound effect and 77700 points. This only happens when revisiting the board after defeating King Dedede, and Blade Knight himself cannot be interacted with after appearing.

Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

Kirby and a Blade Knight helper in Kirby Super Star.

Blade Knight appears in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra as the primary source of the Sword ability, acting much the same as in his last appearance. He can be recruited as a Helper representing said ability, whereupon he will gain all of Sword Kirby's moves and gain an Infinity Jump, with a drawback being reduced maximum health compared to the pink puffball.

In Kirby Super Star Ultra, Blade Knight also appears as a selectable character in Helper to Hero. Sword Knight appears exclusively in the remake as well, but has been differentiated from Blade Knight in a few ways, giving him a few tricks that Blade Knight does not have. Blade Knight also appears on a card in Kirby Card Swipe.

When Blade Knight is damaged in both games, a single eye is revealed underneath his face mask.

Blade Knight also appears in Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition in the New Challenge Stages game, as well as in Aerogree Dimension - 1-1 in Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler, directly taken from his appearance and function in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

In Kirby's Dream Buffet, Blade Knight appears on a Character Treat, using his artwork as a Friend with Blizzard Sword from Kirby Star Allies.

Kirby Air Riders[edit]

In Kirby Air Riders, Blade Knight appears as an enemy found on courses.[1] He provides the Sword ability, succeeding Sword Knight from Kirby Air Ride. Blade Knight sports a slightly new design in this game, having more detailed pauldrons and regaining the three-pronged sword he last used in Kirby Super Star Ultra. Just like in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, a single eye can be seen under Blade Knight's helmet when he takes damage.

Blade Knight also makes an appearance as a route character in Road Trip. He can be found on Sugarcoated Straightaway, where he smashes the pile of candy with his sword, allowing the rider to go to Glowtree Garden Drive.

In addition to appearing in Kirby Melee, Blade Knight appears in the following locations:

Once Kirby has copied the Sword ability, he can summon Blade Knight as a Helper!" "A knight enemy in Dream Land who often gets in Kirby's way. There's an old saying, though, that you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Well, nothing will get your enemies closer than inhaling them! And when Kirby copies the Sword ability in Kirby Super Star Ultra, he can summon Blade Knight as a Helper!"

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya![edit]

Artwork from Kirby: Right Back at Ya!
Main article: Blade Knight (anime character)

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, Blade Knight is an assistant to Meta Knight, and has the same basic job as Sword Knight. In the English dub, he speaks with a Scottish accent. In that dub and several others, however, Blade Knight doesn't speak as coherent as he does in the Japanese version, sometimes to the point to where he can’t be understood at all by the viewer. Despite that, the characters in the show seem to understand him perfectly fine. This happens quite possibly because of his face mask.

In the Kirby novel series, Blade Knight is one of Meta Knight's two highest-ranking henchmen, alongside Sword Knight. The two of them are often seen together, and are extremely loyal to Meta Knight. Blade Knight is somewhat prone to anger.

Volume appearances[edit]

The following is a complete list of every appearance Blade Knight has made in the Kirby novel series, along with the role he plays and its details in the plot of each volume:

Blade Knight's appearances in the Kirby novel series
Volume Image Role Role details Notes
Kirby: Meta Knight and the Puppet Princess Tritagonist In this volume, Blade Knight travels with Sword Knight and Meta Knight to Chef Kawasaki's restaurant. When Kirby crosses paths with them, the two knights get mad when he does not recognize them, but Meta Knight calms them down. When the group arrives at the restaurant, they find out that Princess Marona of the planet Chiffon Star has gone missing, and they all travel there to find her. The group finds out that the princess was manipulated by Baron Gallic, a villain that Meta Knight and his henchmen had dealt with in the past. Blade and Sword remember that Baron Gallic had tried to control them with his Malice Stone to steal Meta Knight's treasured sword Galaxia in the past, but Meta Knight had stopped him. When the group confronts Baron Gallic, Blade Knight accidentally looks at his Malice Stone, falling under the baron's control. They escape to his lair, and the group goes after him. Meta Knight and Sword Kirby battle against the brainwashed Blade Knight. Kirby eventually strikes him down with an Air Bullet, and inhales him so Meta Knight can go after Baron Gallic. After Baron Gallic's defeat, Blade and Sword come back to their senses, and they reunite with Meta Knight.
Kirby's Decisive Battle! Battle Royale!! Tertiary supporting character In this volume, Blade Knight comes to Dedede's Cake Royale to root for Meta Knight in his matches. During the round of Flagball against Kirby, he cheers after Meta Knight hits the flag. He is sad when Meta Knight loses the round and wonders how he even lost when he was far stronger. He cheers up after Captain Vul tells the him that winning the match was not Meta Knight's goal, rather it was testing his strength. During the finals, Blade Knight observes the match, wondering who will win. After Kirby spits out Sword Knight, he is relieved to find that Sword Knight did not abandon them.
Kirby: Meta Knight and the Knight of Yomi Tetartagonist In this volume, Blade Knight competes with the other subordinates of Meta Knight on who can defeat the most enemies as he protects the Halberd from a pirate raid. He comes with Meta Knight to the weapon shop and is informed about the master of disguise. He goes with Meta Knight to Planet Magnus and decides to chase after Beryl and stop his rampage after Meta Knight is rescued from the Magnus Hellhole. He chases him across the galaxy, but always arrives too late. He tries to protect Meta Knight's name and informs the people that the rampaging Meta Knight is a fake. He gets mad at the small boy for wanting to get revenge on Meta Knight and hears from him about the list of locations which Beryl rampaged. Even after thinking it might be a trap, he gets convinced by Kirby to still join the trip to Planet Charm to find Beryl. In Planet Charm, Blade Knight and Sword Knight ponder what led its civilization to ruin. When the group needs to fight Galacta Knight, all the Meta-Knights offer themselves for Kirby to inhale at once, and Blade Knight tries to order them. Instead, Kirby chooses to inhale Blade Knight and gains the Sword ability. When Kirby gets hit by Morpho Knight's attack, he drops his ability, and Blade Knight comes out and gets scared from the situation. Since Meta Knight does not have Galaxia, Blade Knight lets him use his sword instead and helps in the battle. At the end of the story, Blade Knight enjoys a tea party with the other subordinates of Meta Knight.
