| “ | In the previous game, City Trial took place on a map with a given amount of space. Here, it's still a sandbox, but... this time, it's set on... a floating island. Welcome to Skyah! | ” | — Masahiro Sakurai, Kirby Air Riders Direct |
Skyah is the City Trial map for Kirby Air Riders. It is a floating island which contains a small city and a number of small biomes, each with their own landmarks. In addition, there are five dash rings floating in the air which cycle through patches in a similar manner to how Copy Chance Wheels cycle through copy abilities. Flying too far from the island will result in the rider's machine getting struck by lightning, forcing them to fall into the bottomless abyss and returning them to land shortly afterwards.
Overview[edit]
Skyah is a floating island sized about 165m x 187m[1] with an aboveground and underground layer, subdivided into five biomes. Those five biomes are entitled Grassland, City, Mountain, Pier, and Remains. Each of the five biomes are encircled via five two way tracks of Rails, all connecting to a Rail station located at the far end of each biome.
There is a floating garden above Skyah that can only be reached by machines with a high enough
Glide stat.
If the "Field Change" rule is set to On during a City Trial match, noticeable alterations to the areas within Skyah's biomes can occur, called field variants.
Grasslands[edit]
The Grasslands consist of the large field of flowers above Skyah's cave area.

Flower field[edit]

The flower field is on the southwest edge of Skyah, directly above the caves.
The field features flowers of many different bright colors and arrangement patterns, and a windmill in the middle of a Y-shaped dirt path which connects to the rail station.
The area field connects to the caves via cave entrance near the rail station and a large hole near the Remains biome.
The river from the Mountains sector flows through the field via a one-way underground tunnel which cannot be entered from this side, and forks off into two streams: the left stream travels by the hole leading to the cave, features two river pools at either side of the smaller bridge and ends with a narrow mouth, while the right stream inclines towards the city and under the larger bridge, ending with a wide mouth.
A number of bourbons are scattered at the edge of the flower fields; these can be destroyed for the chance to obtain a patch.
Caves[edit]

A series of mossy caves directly underneath the flower field. Consits of a large chamber in the southwest, an underground passageway beneath the Ruins area connecting the flower field to the sea, and a small ramp leading into the Remains biome. There are a large number of teal, orange, and purple crystals in the large chamber that can be can be destroyed for patches.
Depending on the variation, a chasm may separate the large chamber into two, the crystals may be replaced with ruined structures from Airtopia Ruins, or the hole in the ceiling can be plugged up with a massive boulder.
Dustup Derby 5 occurs within the cave's large chamber.
Variants[edit]

City[edit]

Located in the center of Skyah, the City biome consists of a densely packed urban area with buildings, a large flat plaza, and an underground mall. It has the most elaborate Rail station out of the five biomes.
Urban district[edit]

The urban district is a collection of roads and variously-sized buildings which make up the majority of the City sector. It is above the underground mall, connecting to it via a series of six entrances scattered about the district.
Various electrical signage decorates the buildings, alternating between colors gradually. Billboards may occasionally spawn on the side of the buildings, with a massive one over the rail station.
Occasionally, buildings in the Urban district will be covered by an orange, green, or purple sheet. Approaching the building will allow the player to hear the sound of construction tools.
The smaller two buildings of the three closest to the plaza, as well as the small building furthest southwest, can be destroyed by either Gigantes or a rider under the effects of the Size Up item, while the other buildings in the district can only be demolished by Gigantes.
Plaza[edit]

The plaza is located directly southeast of the urban district, and is a colorfully-patterned, mostly flat area. One of the entrances to the Underground Mall is located here, pointing northwest, and doubles as a ramp to launch off of.
Button Rush 1 and Gourmet Race (Stadium) occur within a combination of the Plaza and Urban Area.
Underground mall[edit]

The Underground Mall is a modernly designed interior featuring glass panels on the floor and walls, and various electronic displays and signage. It is home to a parking lot where all the Air Ride Machines can be found in Free Run. Machines can also spawn in this area during a Field Event in a City Trial match. Opposite of the parking lot, there is a two way rail leading to the subway station.
The rail which runs between the Caves and the Spider Nest passes below the Underground Mall.
Building interior[edit]

The inside of the largest building in Skyah's urban district. It typically has four floors and a roof, each decorated in a modernist style.
- The first floor has 3 rooms, with Super Jump Ramps in the northeastern corner of each. The walls are lined with brown hardwood and white walls adorned with brown spirals.
- The second floor features open entryways on each side that allow for riders to fly in from one of the neighboring buildings. The Walls are adorned with blue wavey art, a staircase in the southwestern most corner, and a large display that alternates between pink and blue.
- The third floor features another LED screen, this time featuring arrows pointing to the left and right. The flooring has magenta swirls, and the walls appear to be adorned with hardwood. It opens up to a grassy balcony with grass planted into the floor, and features both a Ramp and Super Jump Ramp to advance to the next floor.
- The fourth floor uses a combination of hardwood and tile flooring, and is lined with what appear to be polarized windows. It opens up to another balcony with tile, and features a Super Jump Ramp in the center of the room.
- The roof is lined with blue hexagonal tiles. It is the second highest point connected to the land on Skyah, with the volcano's peak as the highest.

Remains[edit]

The Remains are a dry, dusty biome within the the center-south of Skyah. They consist of a colosseum on the easternmost side of the biome and a series of crumbling stone structures to the westernmost side of the biome.
Colosseum[edit]

The colosseum is a large, ruined stone structure on the southeast side of Skyah and is the most prominent part of the Remains area. The marooned ship is to the east, while the Remains rail station is to the southwest.
During City Trial matches, it is occasionally possible to view spectators in the colosseum cheering in the stands.
Dustup Derby 4 occurs within the Colosseum, an invisible wall blocks it off from the rest of Skyah.
Remains[edit]

What remains of a few ancient buildings constructed out of stone brick. Clay pots can be found within the ruined buildings. Parts of the ruins are crumbling, and spinning or attacking the crumbling stone will demolish them. A Copy Chance Wheel is located on the roof of the small southwest structure. There's an underground passageway to the Caves.
Variants[edit]
-
The Colosseum in the Remains area is gone.
-
The Colosseum in the remains biome is adorned with a few flowers.
-
The Colosseum in the Remains biome has more green decorations.

Pier[edit]

The Pier biome is to the east of Skyah. Despite it's name, it's a varied section of the map consisting of a of a forest area, the sea, a slim sandy beach, and a marooned ship. The Rail Station is underground within the Subway station area.
Subway station[edit]

The subway station is a small, run-down building located underground, with one of the entrances bordered by the sea, forest, and the long, gentle slope leading to the Mountain sector. It is also connected by three rail stations: the west one leads to the underground mall, the northeast one leads to the Remains rail station and volcano, and the southeast one leads to the colosseum and sea rail station. The larger southern entrance has a metal grate bridge through which the sea's water flows.
Forest[edit]

The forest is located to the east of the City, and features slim trees with dark stripes on their trunks, a rocky path connecting the subway station to the City area which is bisected by the highlands river, and Whispy Woods on the southern end; he flinches if attacked and slumps over crying when attacked enough times, but otherwise does not react to the presence of riders. The slimmer trees can be destroyed for patches.
Sea[edit]

The sea, at the southeast tip of Skyah, is a small body of water connected to the flower field and subway station via underground entrances, and its only notable feature is the marooned ship. When dismounted, a character will swim in its waters. Occasionally, breakable coral generates on the beach between the forest and the sea areas.
Marooned ship[edit]

Mountain[edit]

To the far north of Skyah is the Mountain biome, consisting of the Highlands, Volcano, and a small cavern composed of a spiders nest. The Rail station is built into the volcano.
Highlands[edit]

A rocky area located near the north edge of Skyah, consisting of dry stone next to a large plateau. A waterfall flows down the large plateau.
The waterfall feeds a river which forks to the east and west; the eastern branch flows through the forest and into the sea, while the western branch flows through a one-way underground tunnel to the flower field. A non-dismounted character can enter the tunnel at the highlands side and emerge in the flower field.
There is a metal patch to the west patching up a hole in the ground of Skyah. Should the grate fail to appear, this hole will lead straight down to the death barrier below Skyah.
Volcano[edit]

One of the highest points connected to the ground, the dark grey volcano is shaped like a dragon's mouth. Perpetually erupting a stream of lava through the "eye" of the dragon with a visible plume of smoke at the peak. Invisible walls prevents riders from touching the flowing lava, although colliding with the invisible wall does result in a particle effect that looks like a splash of lava. It is not a hazard despite it's appearance. Entering the mouth leads to the mysterious dimension, and there is a Dash Panel at the peak of the volcano pointing towards the floating garden.
Spider nest[edit]

A small isolated cave on the north side of Skyah, underneath the highlands. It is composed of a massive spider web connected to a small stone cavern, decorated with what appear to be white stone walls and what look like oval shaped objects wrapped in spider web. This massive spider web does not impede the mobility of any machine or disembarked rider. There are two Super Jump Ramps leading back up into the highlands area, and connects to the large southwest caves chamber via a two way Rail.
Mysterious dimension[edit]

Accessed via either the mouth of the volcano or through random portals, the mysterious dimension is a circular, white, cratered platform which appears to be floating in space, as stars of many colors, as well as smears of light, dot the surroundings. Streaks of color fly around the edge of the platform, while meteors and shooting stars are seen flying past with relative frequency. A large sparkling geyser in the middle of the platform launches riders upward and out of the volcano, high into the air. It's a useful way of reaching the floating garden.
Variants[edit]
-
The waterfall on the plateau is gone, a spring takes it's place.
-
The metal grate normally patching up a hole in the Mountains area is gone.
-
There are a few other floating platforms in the Highlands area.
-
Golem sometimes found near the volcano.
-
Alternate colors for the mysterious dimension found underneath the volcano.
Sky[edit]
Floating garden[edit]

The floating garden, is a circular blue platform with a wide golden edge (and a large chunk missing on the southwest edge) suspended above the City biome. Around the edge of the floating garden are eleven orbs of various colors with white patterns on them, suspended above torch-like structures. In the center is a fountain surrounded by brick path and it features a white and gold bowl suspended from a gold ring by chains, which encircles a blue crystalline decoration. A tree with a golden trunk and iridescent leaves spirals around the crystal. It serves as a hub to reach the randomly-appearing floating islands due to its altitude.
Floating islands[edit]
If Field Change is on, one of five floating islands may appear around Skyah, far up in the sky and off the edge of Skyah in one of 10 fixed positions.
All possible positions for the floating islands are marked with clouds on the GUI minimap.
