Magman is the fiery, glob-like boss of Neo Star in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. It mainly uses lava-based attacks, and can also summon Magoo and Burnis to attack Kirby. The battle begins after Kirby and his friends make their way into the cavern Magman makes its home in.
Battle[edit]
Phase 1[edit]
At the start of the battle, Magman resides in the background and can only be damaged when it attacks Kirby with lava pillars. These pillars are used in a variety of ways to manipulate the platforms Kirby is standing on, such as thrusting them at Kirby, pushing the platforms to the ceiling, and creating them right next to Kirby, where they curl downwards to the floor. During these attacks, small enemies called Magoo will appear from the lava. They can be used to obtain the Burn Copy Ability, or simply inhaled and spat back out to drain Magman's health.
Phase 2[edit]
After the majority of its health is drained, Magman will proceed to appear in the foreground and chase Kirby to a solid lava platform on the right. This is the only part of the battle where Magman can be directly attacked. During this phase, the boss no longer uses lava pillars, but instead tries new attacks that include disappearing underground and summoning Burnis (that also have the Burn Copy Ability), blowing fire blasts out of its mouth, and summoning falling rocks by smashing its head into the ceiling. Once Kirby defeats Magman, the latter will surrender a Crystal Shard that is used to advance to Shiver Star.

Trivia[edit]
- In the Virtual Console release of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, and subsequent releases such as Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition, Magman's flashes when hit are significantly dimmer than in the original N64 release. This aligns with Nintendo's policy of removing or reducing visual effects capable of triggering epileptic seizures or otherwise distressing photosensitive players, given Magman's large size.[1]
