This article is about the boss from Kirby: Triple Deluxe, and should not be confused with Drawcia, Claycia, or Vividria.
There was once a painting said to depict a pair of sisters separated at birth. It slept, unnoticed, in a painter's studio for countless years before it came to life and vowed revenge on the world.
— Kirby: Triple Deluxe Boss description

Paintra is a boss making her debut in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. She resembles a witch, but is in fact a living painting, brought to life by the magic power of Taranza. Paintra bears a colorful outfit, complete with two paintbrushes for feet, and attacks by spreading paint, firing energy blasts, and painting pictures that come to life to attack her enemies, much like Ado and Adeleine from previous games would. Paintra is the boss of Triple Deluxe's second Level, Lollipop Land, and she is also battled in The Arena and in Stage 4 of Royal Road.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

This time, I'm introducing Paintra, the boss of Level 2: Lollipop Land. When Kirby chases Taranza into a workshop, he comes across a forgotten painting in there, which is said to depict a pair of sisters separated at birth. The painting is brought to life as Paintra and starts attacking Kirby. Paintra can turn her body into a paintbrush and splatter paint all over Kirby. She’ll even splatter paint on the screen so you can’t see what’s going on! She also has the ability to make drawings come to life. Don’t forget that you can see descriptions of the bosses if you pause the game during battle!
— Satoshi Ishida, Miiverse post on 06/18/2014 9:21 AM

When entering Paintra's boss room, Taranza, who is running away from Kirby, finds a painting. He uses his magic on it and leaves, while Kirby enters the scene, only to watch Paintra come to life, and the battle begins.

The following lists all of Paintra's attacks in Story Mode and The Arena in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Most attack names are taken from official Japanese strategy guides while others are conjectural.

Paintra paints the screen in two different swaths, obscuring the player's view of the action.

Paintra's attacks
Attack Description
魔力球
Magic Spheres

Paintra fires three or more orbs of energy in a set path that can be inhaled and spat back at the boss. Paintra will do this move twice in succession in the second phase, usually after a Painting View.

ペインティングビュー
Painting View

Paintra flies into the foreground, painting the screen in various patterns, often making it more difficult for the player to see what is happening on the screen. This technique breaks the fourth wall. More patterns are available in the second phase.

Brush Swipe[conjectural title]

Paintra approaches Kirby and swipes twice with her paintbrush feet in large arcs, producing stars on the second swipe. She will then re-position and attempt this move again.

ペイント弾
Paint Bullet

Paintra flies into the background, and starts spinning rapidly, releasing six globs of paint that can be inhaled and spat back at an appropriate time. She then finishes by splatting four globs of paint on the screen.

Paint Barrage[conjectural title]

Paintra spins in place and fires rapid bursts of paint toward the ground, making stars erupt from the impact spot. She then re-positions and fires again.

グライドアタック
Glide Attack

Paintra flies into the background and attempts to ram Kirby in a dive. This creates stars where she touches the stage.

Second phase only
トリックペイント
Trick Paint

Paintra summons a number of blank canvases, then paints various objects on them, which then pop off the canvas and deal various effects. One of the paintings is a fake and will not do anything, and in fact can often be inhaled and spat back at Paintra. The following are objects that Paintra can paint:

  • Iron Cannon Balls (3) - The real ones fall down and can squish Kirby, but leave small stars on impact.
  • Spiked Metal Drill Rods (3) - The real ones extend outward from the canvas and leave stars on impact. The fake one can't be inhaled, since it's in the background.
  • Landia (4) - The real ones breathe fire, and will attempt to aim toward Kirby. The fake one can't be inhaled, since it's in the background.
  • Paintra Clones (3) - After painting them, Paintra shuffles herself with them. The three paintings can be inhaled and spat at the real Paintra, but Kirby must be quick about it, lest she will hex them and make them explode.
  • Cannons (4) - The real ones fire three successive shots toward the stage at varying angles. The fake one can't be inhaled, since it's in the background.
ハイド&シーク
Hide & Seek

Paintra summons a giant canvas sheet to cover the background and flies behind it. Paintra will then attempt to ram Kirby through the canvas a number of times, once or more.

Upon defeat, Paintra is sucked back into the painting she came from, then the painting shatters with her inside. In The Arena, she instead explodes after she twitches her body for a while with a hurt expression; this animation is also reused for Paintra DX.

Paintra DX[edit]

Born from a forgotten painting made by a mysterious brush, Paintra DX has come to take her revenge. One must wonder if the painter who created her regrets giving her form.
— Kirby: Triple Deluxe Boss description
Paintra DX.
King Dedede battles Paintra DX.

Paintra DX is fought in Dededetour and in The True Arena. In this appearance, Paintra DX has a notably darker color scheme, with her sporting a black, twisted hat resembling a witch's, purple hair, a red and purple garb, among others.

Paintra DX's attack patterns are made more complex, including firing seven Magic Spheres instead of three. She can also paint a streak of paint in the center of the screen before doing the Trick Paint attack in the second phase, making it more difficult for the player to see the hazards coming from each painting. Paintra DX also gains a new attack where she starts to spin and sweep across the arena.

In Dededetour, instead of being brought to life by Taranza, Paintra DX awakens without additional aid.

The following lists all of Paintra DX's attacks in Dededetour and The True Arena. Note that the attack names are taken from Japanese strategy guides where applicable:

ペインティングビュー

Paintra DX flies into the foreground, painting the screen in various patterns, often making it more difficult for the player to see what is happening on the screen - a lot more than in Story Mode and The Arena. This technique breaks the fourth wall. More patterns are available in the second phase.

Paint Barrage[conjectural title]

Paintra DX spins in place and fires rapid bursts of paint toward the ground, making stars erupt from the impact spot. She then re-positions and attempts this move two more times.

  • Paintra DX Clones (3) - After painting them, Paintra DX shuffles herself with them. The three paintings can be inhaled and spat at the real Paintra, but Kirby must be quick about it, lest she will hex them and make them explode.
  • Cannons (4) - The real ones fire five successive shots toward the stage at varying angles. The fake one can't be inhaled, since it's in the background.

This attack is often used while Painting View is still active - the only exception is if Paintra DX paints three copies of herself.

Circling Brush[conjectural title]

Paintra DX starts to spin around in the background and then comes to the stage and circles it back to forth once. She then goes into the foreground and tries to ram into Kirby or Dedede, throwing out paint in the process, before finishing with a Glide Attack.

Kirby Air Riders[edit]

In Kirby Air Riders, Paintra appears as one of the route characters in Mega-Blossom Meadow in the Road Trip mode, protecting the rider from Lovely by painting the road rainbow, which defeats Lovely and allows the rider to continue towards Prism Overpass. She is also depicted as an Icon and Sticker for the player's License Card, which can be unlocked on the Road Trip Checklist by clearing the Ride over dash zones 30 times and Keep a Star Slide going for 4 consecutive sec. objectives respectively.

Trivia[edit]

Concept art of Vividria, Paintra and Drawcia from Kirby Star Allies: The Original Soundtrack.
  • It is hinted that Paintra might be Drawcia's sister due to them both having paint-based moves, Paintra's description stating that she and her sister were separated at the time of their birth, and them both having a similar appearance and name. This was seemingly confirmed in the booklet included with Kirby Star Allies: The Original Soundtrack, where sketches of Drawcia and Paintra are seen on a page showing concept art for Vividria and labelled as "姉様" (ane-sama), meaning "elder sister".
